Upstate University Hospital

UPSTATE IS THE ONLY ACS CERTIFIED LEVEL I TRAUMA CENTER IN THE CNY REGION, SERVING 1.7 MILLION PEOPLE IN 14 COUNTIES AND 28 REFERRAL HOSPITALS. OUR DEDICATED UPSTATE TRAUMA TEAM IS AVAILABLE 24 HOURS A DAY, 7 DAYS A WEEK TO TREAT PEDIATRIC AND ADULT TRAUMA PATIENTS.
 

OUR LEVEL I TRAUMA CENTER PROVIDES:

-24-hour in-house coverage by general surgeons, and prompt availability of care in specialties such as orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology, internal medicine, plastic surgery, oral and maxillofacial, pediatric and critical care.

-Referral resource for communities in nearby regions.

-Leadership in prevention and public education to surrounding communities.

-Continuing education of the trauma team - physicians, nurses and EMS providers.

-A comprehensive quality improvement program.

-Directs new innovations in trauma care through formal teaching and research.

-A program for substance abuse screening and intervention.

-We provide total care for every aspect of injury—from prevention through rehabilitation.

 

About your TSN Coordinator Anthony:

Anthony has worked as a Registered Nurse in the Adult Emergency Department and the ICU Support Pool. In the Support Pool he worked in all six of our Intensive Care Units. He is dually boarded in Emergency and Critical Care Nursing. For 9 years, Anthony volunteered as a Firefighter and EMT with his local fire department. While obtaining his dual bachelor's degrees in biology and nursing, he founded Utica University Emergency Medical Services. For the last 4 years he has worked as the Deputy EMS Coordinator for Oneida County Emergency Services. While working in this role, he taught Stop the Bleed at Nursing Homes, Fire Departments, and various community organizations. Finally, during the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic he worked as a Public Health Nurse Supervisor, helping facilitate vaccinations across Oneida County.

 

While working at Upstate University Hospital, Anthony teaches Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). He also serves as a member of Upstate University Hospital’s Emergency Management Team.

What brought you to the TSN?

"I've worked with trauma patients across several disciplines. Throughout this time, I've experienced tragedy but also been a part of and witnessed some amazing survivor stories. I've come to care deeply about our trauma patients. As a TSN coordinator, I want to help our patients not just survive their trauma, but thrive and live happy, whole, & meaningful lives after injuries."

Trauma Survivor's Walk

Race to Rebuild is a walk at Onondaga Lake Park that anyone can join in support of trauma survivors and the incredible challenges they face every day. The proceeds from the 2022 race went towards the launch of our TSN grants program and in 2022, 15 trauma centers across the United States were awarded $1,000 toward a local program initiative.
