Welcome to the Trauma Survivors Network at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist!


The Trauma Center at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is located in Winston Salem, North Carolina. We are a Level I Trauma Center for western North Carolina as well as parts of Southern Virginia and Tennessee. A Level I Trauma Center has the doctors, equipment and staff to treat patients with severe traumatic and complicated injuries and serves as a regional resource center with the capacity to provide leadership and total care for every aspect of injury, from prevention through rehabilitation.


Our facility received the first Level I Pediatric Emergency Department distinction in the state, and Brenner Children’s Emergency Department is the only emergency department in the region that is designed just for children.


The health care professionals who care for adult and pediatric trauma patients receive specialized training in the most up-to-date practices of traumatology. Our connection with Wake Forest School of Medicine uniquely positions us to train the next generation of trauma practitioners where we utilize the most advanced clinical research and techniques to inform excellence in clinical medicine, research, patient care, and community health.

Trauma Survivors Network: Support Group

Last Wednesday of the month; contact for virtual options • 6:00 pm- 7:30 pm – This support group provides support to survivors and their families by giving an opportunity to gain information and support from others who have been through trauma and are recovering. This is an open group forum to share experiences, questions and resolutions to issues that are part of life. A place where education, comfort and emotional support surrounding life due to a traumatic experience can be provided and attained. Light food and refreshments will be provided. OASIS (Outreach & Supportive Information Sharing)

Every Monday & Thursday • 10:30 am- 12:00 pm – Family and friends of patients currently admitted to our Trauma Center are invited to take time to relax, have a snack and learn more about the emotional impact of trauma. Groups are held twice a week on Monday and Thursday mornings on the North 5 and Reynolds 9 floor waiting rooms. Join us! Contact [email protected] for more information.

NextSteps Online

Ongoing The NextSteps program is a free 6-week self management course designed to recognize that YOU play the most important role in your recovery. based on the principles of self-management. It uses techniques that have been scientifically proven to increase one’s self confidence and sense of empowerment. NextSteps teaches you the skills to become an active self manager of your health and your life. Learn more here.

SpiNet: Spinal Cord Injury Support Group

Third Thursday of Every Month • 6:00 pm- 7:30 pm – SpiNet is a support group for spinal cord injury survivors and their family provided by the rehabilitation center at Wake Forest Baptist Health. It offers individuals with a spinal cord injury, as well as their family and friends to come together as peers, friends, and mentors in a variety of community-based leisure activities.

Live Again: Amputee Support Group

Third Thursday of Every Month • 6:00 pm- 7:30 pm – Live Again is a support group for amputees and family provided by the rehabilitation center at Wake Forest Baptist Health. It is a voluntary support group aimed at offering an open, informal and welcoming forum in which to meet new friends and create a supportive and informative environment to any amputee or loved one who is in need.
