University of Virginia Health System (44)

University of Virginia Medical Center is a 602 bed academic teaching hospital located in Charlottesville, Virginia.  At UVA our Level I Trauma Service has been serving central Virginia and some areas of Western Virginia for 36 years. We are the only Level I center for 22,000 square miles. The unscheduled tragedy of injury affects thousands of Virginians each year. Last year we served over 1,800 patients. At UVA, our surgical critical care and trauma teams handle some of the most complex cases in the state.

Patients who make it to our trauma bay, have a 96 percent chance of survival. These incredible results are possible because of the exceptional care and collaboration between UVA’s Trauma Center and Virginia’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

In addition to treating injuries, University of Virginia Medical Center Level I Trauma Center has a commitment to education, research and injury prevention.

We are excited to be joining TSN and providing monthly support group meetings.

Upcoming Programs and Events

Volunteer Peer Visitation

As requested. • By appointment

Each trauma survivor has a unique journey, but you don’t have to go it alone. Our program can connect you with a community of patients and families that support one another, while rebuilding their lives after a serious injury. Being a part of this Trauma Survivors Network community means you’re not alone. That could help to ease the anxiety and frustration that often follows a trauma. You might find out about this network when you’re recovering in the Trauma Center. Someone from the network might visit you and drop off some information about the network. We’ll stop back in a few days to see if you or family is interested in our services. (Volunteer Peer Visitation Program)
