The NextSteps program is a free 6-week self management course designed to recognize that YOU play the most important role in your recovery. based on the principles of self-management. It uses techniques that have been scientifically proven to increase one’s self confidence and sense of empowerment. The Family Caregiver Alliance addresses the needs of family and friends providing long-term care for loved ones at home. It provides support, information, and tools to manage the complex demands of caregiving. These include online support and resources, navigators to help locate support services by state, and the National Center on Caregiving which unites research, policy, and practice to develop cost-effective programs for caregivers. The ADA National Network provides information, guidance and training on how to implement the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in order to support the mission of the ADA to “assure equality of opportunity, full participation, independent living, and economic self-sufficiency for individuals with disabilities.” ADA specialists help families address complex questions on a wide range of ADA topics such as reasonable accommodations at work, building codes for new construction projects, accessible housing, and transitioning from school to work. ADA specialists also address questions about other disability laws, such as the Fair Housing Act, the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act, and the Rehabilitation Act. The Alabama Head Injury Foundation: Improving the quality of life for survivors of traumatic brain injury and for their families. The Alabama Head Injury Foundation (AHIF) was founded by professionals and families in 1983 to increase public awareness of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and to stimulate the development of supportive services. Whether the injury is mild or severe the life of the injured person and their family is changed forever. The impact can be both emotionally and financially devastating. AHIF provides the information to help clients and families understand the results of injury. AHIF helps access available resources and provides services and programs which meet the unique needs of individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI) as well as spinal cord injury (SCI) in certain programs.
