Our Pediatric Emergency Department is home to specially trained pediatric physicians who are all board certified / eligible in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and provide care for emergent conditions, including pediatric trauma, stroke, seizures, brain injury, and other critical conditions requiring immediate medical attention. The Pediatric Trauma Service is led by specially trained and board certified attending Pediatric Surgeons who deliver the most up to date trauma care in the region to approximately 500 patients annually.

Maria Fareri provides care for the full spectrum of pediatric neurosurgical injuries. Modern techniques are used in an individualized, patient-oriented approach. All pediatric neurosurgical care is provided in a multidisciplinary fashion as part of other collaborative programs.

The Orthopedic Surgeons at Maria Fareri have specialized training in caring for all pediatric traumatic orthopedic injuries.  They have all trained at specialized centers, and work collaboratively with all other services.

When our Pediatric patients are admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), here is what to expect. The PICU is an 18-bed unit that takes care of medical and surgical patients who require intensive care, treating all ages from newborn to young adulthood. Our state-of-the-art PICU allows our Trauma team to work seamlessly with our Pediatric Intensivists to employ clinical expertise and newer technologies in a compassionate arena where family centered care is delivered.  The breadth of pathology of admitted patients to the PICU includes all possible pediatric injuries and illnesses.

Our PICU attending physician staff is fellowship trained and board eligible/certified in pediatrics and the sub-specialty of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine (PCCM). The PICU nursing staff has a 25 year history of pediatric critical care experience, and our dedicated respiratory therapy team has extensive experience dealing with pediatric patients that require respiratory support services.

The mission of the medical caregivers of the PCCM division is to deliver excellent care for critically ill or injured infants, children and adolescents requiring our tertiary/quaternary center - while at the same time supporting families during this intense emotional time.
