ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children’s Hospital

ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children's Hospital, formerly ProMedica Toledo Children's Hospital, is a 169-bed facility in Toledo, Ohio established in 1993, and has grown to be the region’s leading pediatric care facility. We offer a full spectrum of medical services to meet the unique needs of children from birth through adolescence.

  • We're accredited by the Joint Commission. We strive to meet the highest national standards for safety and quality of care and are committed to continually improving patient care.
  • We’re the region’s largest Level II pediatric trauma center, providing high quality trauma care for patients during any life emergency.
  • The Hillabrand Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a Level III 72-bed unit providing care for premature babies as early as 22 weeks gestation and as small as 400 grams (14 oz). Our NICU has individual patient rooms designed to mimic the sheltered environment of a mother's womb.
  • Our pediatric cancer specialists treat patients in our state-of-the-art, yet youthful and whimsical, Debbie Brass Children's Cancer Center.
  • We're the first dual-certified asthma program for treating both inpatient and outpatients by the Joint Commission in Ohio.

Who we are

ProMedica Russel J Ebeid Children's Hospital is Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan’s premier Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center dedicated to providing high quality trauma care to the region’s most severely injured patients. For over 25 years ProMedica Toledo Hospital’s Level 1 Adult Trauma Center and ProMedica Russell J Ebeid Children's Hospital Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center has received accreditation by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) for outstanding trauma care.

The trauma team is on duty 24 hours a day to provide emergency care to injured patients. This includes initial evaluation and resuscitation, surgical care, management in our trauma surgical intensive care and nursing units, operative management, rehabilitation and outpatient care. Our trauma team is led by trauma surgeons who coordinate care with other specialists including neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, and any other specialty surgeons and physicians who may be needed to care for each patient’s unique injuries.

A large number of nursing and other staff members are also a part of the trauma team, including pre-hospital providers, radiology, pharmacy, laboratory, respiratory, pastoral care, social services, rehabilitative medicine and support staff.  ProMedica Toledo Hospital and ProMedica Russell J Ebeid Children's Hospital's trauma team cares for approximately 3000 trauma patients each year.

ProMedica Toledo Hospital and ProMedica Russell J Ebeid Children's Hospital Trauma Services has an ongoing commitment to research and education.   We are a leading provider of injury prevention and community outreach educational opportunities.   Much of our data collection is used to support research and evidenced-based care initiatives.  ProMedica's Trauma program is also supported by residents (physicians in training) in surgery, orthopedics and emergency medicine, thereby training future trauma care providers.

Safety Tips for Children with Special Needs

https://www.promedica.org/assets/documents/service-to-the-community/tch_special_needs.pdf

Injury is the leading cause of death in children over 1 year in age. In 2003, unintentional injuries caused the deaths of 4,241 children under the age of 15 (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services). In addition, each year more than 92,000 children are permanently disabled (Safe Kids USA). Children who have chronic illnesses such as diabetes, asthma and epilepsy are at the same risk for injury as their healthy peers. Unfortunately, children with disabilities have higher than average risks for injuries and injuryrelated death (Safe Kids USA).

The families who stay with us are mere minutes from their child and by having their meals and lodging needs taken care of, families can focus on more important matters – the well-being of their little ones.

Family & Child Abuse Prevention

https://www.fcapc.org/

The Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center was founded in 1974 by local pediatrician, Dr. Bernard Cullen, and a small group of concerned citizens, who saw first hand the devastating effects of child abuse. While child protection and law enforcement agencies have a crucial role in child protection, our founders had the foresight to see the need for additional community partners. From the compassion, dedication, and vision of this small group of people, an organization has evolved with dedicated professionals who diligently work to break the cycle of family violence. With offices in Lucas and Ottawa counties, Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center serves over 50,000 people each year.
