Since completing its affiliation with University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) in September 2017, University of Maryland Capital Region Health (UM Capital), has made significant strides toward achieving its goal of providing comprehensive, high quality, accessible healthcare to the residents of Prince George's County and the surrounding areas.  Our collaborative leadership team is in place and our efforts are already being recognized by a number of national standards-setting bodies for the delivery of excellent patient outcomes in key areas of heart health, women's health and infection control.  The UM CRH system includes UM Capital Region Medical Center, UM Laurel Regional Hospital, UM Bowie Health Center (Emergency Department and Surgery Center) and UM Capital Region Health Medical Group.

MTREM

Every Wednesday • 1pm-2pm

Men's Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model: is an 18-session group intervention divided into two parts. Part One (Male Messages, Emotions, and Relationships) includes nine sessions; these cover male gender roles and key emotional and relationship domains for male survivors. Part Two (Trauma Recovery) consists of nine sessions; it focuses on emotional, physical, and sexual abuse and their relationships to psychological symptoms, substance use, and relationship patterns. Part Two also emphasizes the development and strengthening of interpersonal, problem-solving, and life planning skills. Learn more

Injury Prevention

Capital Region Health's Trauma Injury Prevention focuses on injury trends, and developing prevention education programs for the District of Columbia and Prince George's County. The mission is to reduce preventable injuries and violence and reduce the consequences while establishing a culture of injury prevention. The vision is to put an end to preventable injuries for our citizens. Injury is a public health issue and efforts need to be made to keep residents and all Americans safe from the preventable injuries and violence. This initiative is part of a defined partnership with the community, school systems, legislators, and businesses, including the Department of Juvenile Services, Department of Parole and Probation, public and private schools, the State's Attorney's Office, and community organizations. Our prevention programs are targeted to middle and high school students, high risk adolescents and adults. Career education programs are also available for high school students interested in the medical industry. The prevention staff provides scientific presentations, participates in various committees, task forces and coalitions on distracted driving, impaired driving, violence and injury prevention, and fall prevention. Fall Prevention Program

The Fall Prevention program is designed to assist older adults to take control of their falls risk, explore different coping behaviors and encourage follow-through of safety strategies in everyday life. The program includes both a group workshop setting and individualized follow-up. Workshops are facilitated by two individuals, either two trained Leaders. A Leader is a healthcare professional, health educator and Physical Medicine Therapist. Learn more

Distracted Driving

Distracted driving has become a national epidemic—endangering passengers, adjacent vehicle occupants, motorcyclists and bicyclists, and nearby pedestrians. While we generally think of distracted driving as texting or talking on the cell phone, it can take many other forms: adjusting the radio station, applying makeup, eating, chatting with other passengers, or taking a sip of your drink can all distract a driver from the essential task of safe driving. Texting has become one of the most common, pervasive forms of distracted driving, and too many drivers are succumbing to this deadly—and often, illegal—habit. Learn more

We provide counseling services for families at our Wednesday Night Family Clinic, and individuals and families may receive counseling services on other days and times as available. We also offer weekly group counseling services to our local schools.
