Acute Pain

Short-term, or acute, pain can protect us by warning of damage or injury to the body. It may be a result of a trauma or surgery. How acute pain works is fairly well understood, so it can usually be diagnosed and treated. This type of pain is short-term and usually goes away once the medical problem is solved or an injury has healed. However, acute pain can also become chronic pain.
