Pain Action Guide

The American Pain Foundation offers an easy-to-read pamphlet, where you can get answers to questions such as—What are my rights as a person with pain? How do I talk to my doctor or nurse about pain? Where can I find help? The Pain Action Guide begins with a Pain Care Bill of Rights and describes the seriousness of the pain problem. It dispels commonly-held myths and misconceptions and gives tips on how to talk to doctors and nurses about pain. The pamphlet gives encouraging advice but avoids raising unrealistic expectations. Readers are cautioned that getting relief from pain often takes time and hard work.

Although the Pain Action Guide “speaks” to people with pain, it can also be a useful tool for their families, caregivers, and friends. It’s also a great handout for medical professionals, clinics, hospitals, and healthcare institutions.
