Contusion

Bruising and swelling of the brain caused by a fracture is called a contusion. This is when there is a certain area of the brain tissue mixed with blood released from broken blood vessels. A contusion may also result from the brain being shaken back and forth called a contrecoup (i.e. from high speed car accidents and shaken baby syndrome).
