Protective Equipment
In sports and recreational activities, there is often protective equipment that may be either mandatory or optional. This includes helmets, pads, safety vests, etc. Such safety equipment was created because there was a need to prevent injuries. By choosing to not use this equipment or wear it improperly (i.e. not buckling helmet) than the risk of injuries increases. Once a spinal cord injury has occurred it is too late.
