bi-lateral hand amputee accident
by JKoger on Sep 04, 2009, 02:39AM

on march 1st 2008 i was involved in a atv accident where i ran into a down powerline. 7200 volts went threw my body. completely alert i was life flighted two hrs away to nashville tn at vanderbilt hospital. i was in the burn unit under the care of dr. jeff guy. both hands were amputated. i was in the hospital 12 days and went home. the day i got home i tried to drive. 1 month after my accident i was in the woods turkey hunting without limbs or prosthetics. i realized that life is most important and with god all things are possible. people say i am amazing on what i do today but if it wasn’t for god, family, and vanderbilt i wouldn’t be where i am today. you should never give up just continue on down your path. the day of my accident i thought if today is my day i am ready but if i have a choice i want to live to help my wife raise my two girls and only being 30 i have a long life ahead. losing my arms was terrible but it could have been a lot worse. live life as if it is your last. dream as if you will live forever but live as if you die today. you can read my story at www.cnn.com type amputee gets new hands, www.youtube.com type jason koger, www.google type jason koger and www.caringbridge.org/visit/jasonkoger thanks and if i can help anyone please feel free to write me at jkoger84@hotmail.com but please write vanderbilt or something i would see in subject line.

thanks,
jason koger

Hi again Jason,

I can’t thank you enough for your involvement in this forum. I think what amazes me most about you is your resilience. Resilience is a factor in recovery who’s value is hard to measure, because for those that find it and tap into it, the recovery always goes so very smoothly compared to folks like me who struggled mightily to recover.

I’m quite sure there are moments where it isn’t all sunshine and roses for you, but resilience isn’t about denying what happened, it’s more about ones ability to rise above it, and you my friend are rising mighty high!

You are a true testament to what recovery can be like, and it’s a very important role you play in this forum, don’t ever forget that!

God bless you my friend!

Steve
