Level III Trauma Center
In the United States, a Level III trauma center provides emergency medical care to trauma patients who do not currently need the services of a Level I or II trauma center. Level III centers provide prompt assessment, resuscitation, emergency surgery, and stabilization before transfer to a Level I or II center. Level III facilities typically serve communities that do not have immediate access to a Level I or II trauma center. A Level III trauma center is required to have a certain number of surgeons on call 24 hours a day and a trauma surgeon is expected to be in the emergency room within 30 minutes of a patient’s arrival.
