Cardiothoracic and Thoracic Surgeon

A cardiothoracic surgeon is a specialist involved in the management of diseases and injuries that affect the chest and heart. This specialty includes providing surgical care of patients for coronary artery disease, cancers of the lung, esophagus, and chest wall, abnormalities of the heart, great vessels and heart valves, and diseases of the diaphragm. The management of the airway and injuries to the chest are also areas of surgical practice for the thoracic surgeon.
