Ipecac Syrup

Ipecac syrup is available over the counter from your local drug store. It can be bought and stored in the home for an emergency. It is used to induce vomiting. Call the Poison Control Center before using it at home.

The American Association of Poisoning recommends that if there is poison on clothing, immediately remove the clothing and rinse skin under running water for 20 minutes. Likewise, if there is poison in the eyes, rinse with running water keeping the eye open for 20 minutes. If poison has been inhaled or swallowed or a person has collapsed, immediately call 1-800-222-1222 (www.1-800-222-1222.info). It is advised to have this phone number available next to a telephone in your home.
