Pool Safety

Spinal cord injuries resulting from diving in shallow water can be prevented by thoroughly examining the area in which you will be diving ahead of time. It is easy to misjudge the depth of the water, especially when it is unclear. If you are a pool owner, designate a special diving area if possible. It is also recommended to use pool fencing to keep out children and others when there is no supervision present. Do not consume alcohol and pool use because it may impair judgment and reaction times (www.orthoinfo.aaos.org).
